A Nocturnal Flowering- Fun With Black Light Paints

Finally had the time to play around with the black light paints I bought almost a year ago- the results were- well- otherworldly 🙃

To start with I took a scrap of black Stonehenge paper splashed water all over it. I then poured a little UV sensitive medium on it- wiped that around with a brush and then pressed wadded up paper towels into the wet paint (like how I start my blotographs ). Unfortunately the UV medium was so diluted not much of a pattern showed up after it dried but there were a couple mouth like forms that appeared (to me) that would make a starting point. From there it just kind of took off.

The pic above was taken under a low watt halogen black light. Below I photographed it under the light of a UV spectrum LED flashlight-

Neither bulb does this thing justice- but it kind of gives you an idea of what this piece looks like in person (under la lumiere noir of course). Under day light it looks interesting-

But under the black light it really comes to life-

I enjoyed painting with pure color and this medium is well suited to very graphic imagery.

This little experiment turned out nicely and has given me ideas for lots of future projects. Stay tuned….
