Soft Winter Landscapes

Dilute washes of soft, warm grays create the illusion of winter landscapes-

These pieces bring to mind Chinese landscape paintings.

From a distance these pieces look almost like a fuzzy black and white photo but on closer inspection are made up of splashes of paint and squiggly lines bleeding into each other.

This piece turns into a view of mountains with clumps of cedar and what could be a road running next to a field if you squint. It’s actually random splotches of thicker paint bleeding into a wet under layer of thinned out washes.

In this final piece the distant mountains in the background look fairly realistic but a close up look at the forested ridge line reveals the abstract squiggles of the bare trees morphing into tufts of dark fur.
